The Father Gives Gladly
It was almost two years ago since we brought our son home and adopted him. My wife and I love him so much. We can’t imagine life without him. It makes me so happy that I am his father and he is my son. When he came into our family, everything of ours became his. Our house is his. Our food is his. Our water is his. Our heat in the winter, our air conditioner in the summer is his. When I die, he gets the inheritance. What is mine is his.
Now, think about this… Do you think I give these things to him grudgingly? Do you think I want to trick him into thinking all that I have is his and then snatch it out from under him? Do you think I would ever take his inheritance away from him? No! It is his. I give it all to him willingly, gladly. It is my good pleasure to give him all that I possess. But not only that, it is my good pleasure to give him security and safety, comfort and love, peace and joy, as much as I can give it to him. I love giving to him! I want him to enjoy my provision for him. And while there are limits to what I can give my son, there is no limit to the riches that come from the Father in Christ.
Now, brothers and sisters, if you have been adopted into the family of God through faith in Jesus Christ, you are his children. And why would we think that God is any less generous than me, a sinful human being? Why would we worry and think that we won’t have all we need? Why would we seek after other things when God, who has all things, is our Father? How much more will God bless his children than sinful fathers?! How much more will he give us everything we need?! If we who are wicked know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?!
If you’re in Christ… united to him in faith… the Father’s has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Lk. 12:32).
